Plane Crash In Neighborhood

Category: Family | PhotographyJRBlack @ 14:18

On the evening of March 30, 2011, a small air plane lost it’s bearing in poor visibility and low cloud ceiling and crashed into a neighbors house up the street.

Moments before the crash, Kim took Caitlin to dance and I was home with the boys.  I was out back in the yard with Amber when I heard what sounded like a car crash or transformer blow.  Later inside the house a friend from outside the neighborhood called to see if we were OK, that they heard reports of an air plane crash in our neighborhood.  Parts of Sandy Ridge Rd were closed down and Gallimore Dairy Rd.  The area was marked off like a crime scene and Kim and Caitlin were unable to get home till much later in the evening with a police escort through the scene.

Although the pilot and passanger died in the crash, God blessed the familiy in that home and all survived without injury... though it was a close call by about 8 feet.

Below are a few pictures I took with my cell phone that evening.

NewSong Christmas Tour

Category: Family | Kids | Photographyjrblack @ 17:12

Christmas is fast approaching and get it kicked into gear, we took the family to the NewSong Christmas concert.  It was great.  The concert was in a big church instead of a large sports arena and we had front row seats.  It was a late night for the kids, but they didn’t seem to mind.

NewSong brought with them Michael Tate (formerly of the D.C. Talk and now with NewsBoys), Kerrie Roberts (fairly new to the Christian Music scene) and some great violinist (can’t remember his name).  I brought with me a BlackBerry Storm to try it out recording some of the concert.  The video looks decent for a phone video, but the audio is awful… either I was covering the microphone or it just can’t handle the loud volume.

All the performances were great, the place was packed and Russ Lee (now singing with NewSong) was just awesome as usual.

Here are a few pictures, Click on an image to view it larger and notice that you can click next and previous to see the rest.  Here is a link to all the pictures in a slide show at Windows Live.  I used LightRoom to clear up the noise caused by shooting in the dark with out a flash and high ISO of 1600.

At the bottom you can watch the videos if you are interested via YouTube.

Amber’s first Video on YouTube

Category: Photography | Familyjrblack @ 11:07

I was experimenting with a used BlackBerry 9530 phone that I use for Calendar, Camera, Video, MP3 Player and a few games.  So I was trying out the video camera with Amber in the back yard the yesterday before dinner.  The lighting was good, late afternoon, just before dawn, so there was no harsh lighting or shadowing.  The video is a bit jerky at times and I was not able to zoom which I found quite annoying… but then again, if zoom did work, the video would be real shaky given the little phone you have to hold.  Being able to upload and share on YouTube was quite easy.
