Winter Jam 2011

Category: Family | Kids | SchoolJRBlack @ 07:56

Kim and I (and a few other adults) went to the Winter Jam 2011concert in Greensboro as chaperones with about 25 youth from our youth group.  Clearly this event has continued to grow in popularity since Kim and I last went in 2008.  Construction on 3 sides of the coliseum did not help to lessen the confusion and congestion getting to the event or inside the event.  Greensboro was a record breaking attendance at 23,000 attending and many more were turned away with no room and no seat.

This years performance included Chris Sligh (former American Idol contestant), Chris August (famous for the Candy Song), Sidewalk Prophets, KJ-52, Red, Francesca Battistelli, Kutless, David Crowder Band and Newsboys (with new lead singer Michael Tate).  Of course NewSong hosted the event with speaker Tony Nolan.

The last time we went to this event it was in 2008 with front row seats as the Winter Jam Supper Fan winners with radio station WBFJ.  So this was event was quite different for us.  We probably didn’t get there as early as we could have and it was more then a challenge to manage that many youth through the crowd, get good seat and not loose any.  Because of the construction, I believe they were using 2 or 3 different entrances and it was clear to us by the time we were able to look into the arena, that other doors were opened earlier… it looked to be 50% full already.

Well the youth seemed to really enjoy the concert and the different bands.  Below are a few pictures from the event.  Pick an image below and click on it.  Then you can advance next and previous through the rest of them.

Jeremy and I went to the Youth Pastor / Youth Leader meeting and got to meet a few of the band members.

Christmas Snow 2010

Category: Kids | Familyjrblack @ 15:36

Christmas day ended at Grandma and Grandpa Mumaw’s place with good food and fun times and flurries on the way.  Well the flurries continued, and it snowed and snowed… Soon Grandma forgot we are originally from the north and know how to drive in the snow and sent us all home early before the roads got covered with snow.

Well it continued to snow through out the night and in the morning we woke up to find 6 to 7 inches of the fluffy white stuff.  The snow was thick on the branches and looked beautiful.  A combination of the opportunity to play inside with new toys and me forgetting to pull out the camera later on these are the only pictures I have of this wonderful snow storm.

For Amber, pictures wouldn’t do it justice.  She had a blast exploring the new cold whit fluffy stuff.  Sure we had a few dustings before, but this was different.  She would run and scurry, dig here snout in the snow and shake and snort.  It was fun.

Christmas 2010 Highlights

Category: Kids | Familyjrblack @ 15:13

Lego’s and Nerf were a big hit again this year for Collin and Austin.  Caitlin’s highlight of course was her American Girl doll.

I just noticed there is no Christmas tree in any of these pictures.  Well we did have a tree, but not much else.  At thanksgiving time we went to PA to visit family and for some reason the threw off the next few weeks and we never did get much else besides the tree for decorations.
